You say that you may apply dielectric grease under the clamp. I have seen advice that said to clean the post and clamp, and then apply a very light cost of dielectric grease on the post and install the clamp. Then cover the outside of the clamp and bolt with dielectric grease. Some people say that you should never put grease between the post and the clamp since it is an insulator and will impede the flow of current. Others say that the grease on the post will squeeze out of the high spots where contact is actually made, and fill the low spots to achieve a long life, corrosion free, high capacity connection.

I have replaced the PS for my daughter's Gateway MX-6436 LT, and the MB, as it sometimes charges the battery, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it runs with the battery out and the PS in, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it indicates charging, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it turns off after 30 min as the power meter indicates a low charge, but won't charge with either PS. I feel I am chasing a ghost. Does anyone have any ideas? Flooded cells have detachable caps for each cell where distilled water is filled up to the working level. The battery appears to be losing 1-2% of its initial charge every day. If discharge continues at that rate, the vehicle would need to be driven (or battery otherwise recharged once per week) to stay in usable condition. I wouldn't use it as a primary battery in a vehicle, but left tended it could be put into "service" as a backup battery should my friend run into trouble with his new battery.

It is organised into three pairs of cells. Each pair is connected in parallel. I don't want to disconnect the cells from the battery circuit board, so I was wondering if I can connect my 18650 battery charger and charge (in place), each pair of batteries in turn?
