The second rating, which is always higher than the first one, is called the burst or max current rating. This rating is a little more difficult to understand as it involves a timeframe. Not all cell spec sheets and battery cell manufacturers rate burst current the same way.

The lifespan of car batteries depends on how they are used. Typically, they can last more than three years – sometimes up to seven years – when they get correctly charged, are used every day, and have never been totally discharged and recharged several times. If the lifespan of a battery is less than three years, possible causes are lack of use, low electrolyte levels, excessive discharging and recharging, corrosion, problems with charging, or the cells are merely damaged.

The battery appears to be losing 1-2% of its initial charge every day. If discharge continues at that rate, the vehicle would need to be driven (or battery otherwise recharged once per week) to stay in usable condition. I wouldn't use it as a primary battery in a vehicle, but left tended it could be put into "service" as a backup battery should my friend run into trouble with his new battery.

If a relatively new pack has only one defective cell and a replacement is located, exchanging the affected cell makes sense. With an aged battery, however, it’s best to replace all cells. Mixing new with old causes a cell mismatch that has a short life. In a well-matched battery pack all cells have similar capacities. An anomaly is a chain in which the weakest link determines the performance of the battery(See BU-302: Serial and Parallel Battery Configurations)
Over time, a battery is charged and discharged. It’s these charge and discharge cycles that wear the battery the most. A battery pack is only good for so many cycles. Typical cobalt-based lithium-ion battery packs will last anywhere between 500 to 1200 cycles depending on the configuration and application. This usually comes out to 3 to 5 years in most use cases.

Hello, I was inquiring about the C7000 series in order to wake up a couple Dell laptop batteries that have resisted taking any charge after being away from the laptop for an extended period of time. I was given the following as part of the response: "Testing Dell Laptop batteries, can however, be a challenge as in many cases they have a protection circuit in the batteries which doesn't allow it to "handshake" or communicate with the analyzer to get the charge going." 1. Is there any reliable way to get around the handshake issue? 2. How do I know which Dell laptop batteries have that problem? 3. I understand it was only the older laptop batteries and not the newer ones that are affected. Is that correct? Thanks, Steve
The battery should read at least 12 volts. If your reading shows 10 to 12 volts instead, you may be able to restore the normal function through reconditioning. However, there’s no reason to try it once the battery reaches below 10 volts if you recharged it quite recently. At this point, you are better off getting a replacement.
I bought a brand new battery 6 months ago for my old Macbook A1181, I checked the battery, charged it to 100% and then left it in my macbook for six months but now I turn it on for the first time in six months and the battery from 0%-3% goes to "x" or says "no charging, replace battery asap" why? thanks
To prevent future corrosion on the battery cables, you can apply dielectric grease or petroleum jelly under the clamps. You should also keep up a regular maintenance routine to avoid having to change your battery more often than necessary.
