I re-celled a laptop battery with 4 cells. After completion, I turned on the laptop but it didn't power up! The laptop does turn on with AC Adapter plugged in, but if I unplug the charger, the laptop shuts down, as if the the battery has been removed. If you still only get a red flashing light and the battery won't charge, boost the battery some more. I find the battery charger will recognize that the battery is good again when you boost it to between 10 and 14 volts.

The typical SMBus battery has five or more battery connections consisting of positive and negative battery terminals, thermistor, clock and data. The connections are often unmarked; however, the positive and negative are commonly located at the outer edges of the connector and the inner contacts accommodate the clock and data.
