If your battery keeps running down, starting slowly or the temperature is impacting how well your car starts, you may have a problem.
The lifespan of car batteries depends on how they are used. Typically, they can last more than three years – sometimes up to seven years – when they get correctly charged, are used every day, and have never been totally discharged and recharged several times. If the lifespan of a battery is less than three years, possible causes are lack of use, low electrolyte levels, excessive discharging and recharging, corrosion, problems with charging, or the cells are merely damaged.

Disconnect the front camera/earpiece speaker/proximity sensor with the nylon spudger.
Next, do a function check. Are there any signs of corrosion? This negative reaction is unavoidable given the nature of chemicals present in batteries. However, one can always apply a protective layer to avoid battery leak (in case it eats away the case). If you scrub the terminals with Sodium Bicarbonated scrubbing tool, it can remove the corrosion away. Next, you should look for battery voltage. Low battery voltage is a red flag one should heed to condition your battery before it shuts down in middle of something important. If the problem is caused by a low electrolyte level, using Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) to make an electrolyte solution will help revive your car battery. Check out this article on how to check your battery’s electrolyte level. Epsom salt is a stronger acid, which contains a variety of hydrates, and it might help tip the chemical balance and deliver enough charge to start the engine.
Measure the voltage of a repaired pack and check it again after 24 hours and a few days. If a cell drops lower than another in the pack, then there is fear of elevated self-discharge(See BU-802b: Elevated Self-discharge) Simple Guidelines when Repairing Battery Packs Only connect cells that are matched. Do not mix cells of different chemistry, age or capacity.Never charge or discharge Li-ion batteries unattended without a working protection circuit. Each cell must be monitored individually with a protection circuit.Include a temperature sensor that disrupts the current should the pack get hot.Apply a slow charge to a repaired pack to bring all cells to parity.Pay attention when using an unknown cell brand. Elevated temperature hints to an anomaly.Do not charge a Li-ion battery that has physical damage, has bulged or has dwelled at a voltage of less than 1.5V/cell for some time.Check a repaired pack for self-discharge. Intrinsic defects often reveal themselves in an elevated self-discharge. Previous Article Next Article

The first mission of a repair centre is to repair the failed battery, so it can be placed back in the vehicle, and no replacement is required. This is without a doubt the most cost-effective and sustainable way of dealing with failed batteries.
Don’t utilize tap water as it includes chemicals that negatively harm the battery.
Step 4B: A lot of the time the cells in a bad battery pack are just fine and the BMS is the only thing that is messed up. So, if you verify that all the cell groups are good but the battery won’t work, then the BMS more than likely needs to be replaced. Simply find a BMS that supports the number of cell groups in series that the battery you are working on has. It’s also important to make sure that whatever replacement BMS you choose is able to support the amount of current that the battery pack will need to provide in its application.
