SIR, My laptop ASUS X540S, three month ago his battery had a cell from three damaged and I continued to use it like that. The battery has 3 cells, the middle one had 0V, the two others had 3.88V and I replaced the damaged with a new one. Unfortunately now the battery seems disconnected from the charger. I see 13% available (plugged in, charging), but battery do not charge. When disconnected, the 3-d terminal shows 3,2V, the 8 others 0V. When charger is connected : terminals 1 and 2 have 0,06V, 3 have 3,2V, 4 0V, 5 and 6 have 3,25V, terminals 7,8 and 9 have 0V. When system started, nothing change. My question, which terminal is the switch one ? If I connect to ground through 100 ohms any terminal, do I risk to damage the computer ? What should I do ?

Lead- and nickel-based batteries are more or less uniform and one can say that lead acid is lead acid and NiMH is NiMH. This cannot be uttered about the lithium-ion family as it has diverged into many unique systems and some with different voltages. While most Li-ion has a nominal cell voltage of 3.60V and charges to 4.20V, some specialty Li-ion charge to 4.10V and newer Energy Cells top at 4.35V/cell and higher. Li-phosphate presents a further exception with a nominal cell voltage of 3.20V and a charge limit of 3.65V/cell. Also unique is Li-titanate with a nominal cell voltage of 2.40V and charge limit of 2.85V(See BU-205: Types of Lithium-ion) These cells are definitely not interchangeable.
Reconditioned car batteries are the procedure of restoring the life and charging capacity of the worn out battery. You shouldn’t throw out your old or dead cells as you can recondition them for 1 or 3 times.
It took about two (2) days for the green Charge LED to be solid green, indicating charging complete. It's entirely possible it finished overnight, but I wasn't in a rush to gather exact timings. You say that you may apply dielectric grease under the clamp. I have seen advice that said to clean the post and clamp, and then apply a very light cost of dielectric grease on the post and install the clamp. Then cover the outside of the clamp and bolt with dielectric grease. Some people say that you should never put grease between the post and the clamp since it is an insulator and will impede the flow of current. Others say that the grease on the post will squeeze out of the high spots where contact is actually made, and fill the low spots to achieve a long life, corrosion free, high capacity connection.

Hello, dielectric grease will prevent oxygen (and corrosion) to enter the post and clamp. We recommend a thin layer once battery terminal is clamped. It is better to allow maximum contact between metal (clamp and post). Thanks!

So, why do lithium batteries stop working? There are several possible reasons why a battery stops working and it could even be a combination of reasons. A BMS does a really great job of protecting a battery pack but they are not perfect and there are some circumstances that render their protections useless. For example, if a battery is shorted out in the wrong area, the overcurrent protection won't be able to cut off the connection. This is unlikely, but it happens.

A lead acid battery that sits for a while unused, can get sulfide deposits on the plates which will affect its ability to work properly and take or produce a charge. AFAIK, the deposits ‘block’ the acid from the lead which stops the reaction.
Be careful when you treat the battery cells. The deposits have to dissolved from the battery rods, and it’s not easy. Distilled water can enhance the procedure. You should use a mixture of Epsom Salt and distilled water for above.
